PORTRAIT

Tommy Lee Jones was acting since the early 70s, but he didn't become a star until the late 80s/early 90s through roles in such productions as Lonesome Dove, JFK and The Fugitive. That was twenty years after Jones made his debut with a small part in Arthur Hiller's success Love Story, and after paying his dues in television work and smaller part. But when he first came to prominence, Jones filled niche that made him an instant favourite. Usually in supporting roles, Jones brings a combination of edge and softness to his roles. His deep, sad eyes, weathered skin and friendly smile makes him a compatible choice. From the 90s, Jones even stepped up to leading roles in films such as The Client and Men in Black. In 2005, Jones made his directorial debut with the western The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada for which he won the Best Actor award in Cannes and was nominated for the Golden Palm.
