Robert De Niro is widely regarded as one of the most talented of today's living actors, and as one of the greatest movie stars of all time. He came to prominence in the early seventies in a handful of films directed by long-time companions Francis Ford Coppola and Martin Scorsese (Mean Streets, The Godfather II, Taxi Driver), and his powerful method acting led to him being dubbed the new Marlon Brando. De Niro has delivered fine (if safe) roles throughout the 80s and 90s, and has maintained both his integrity and his status, despite showing signs of stagnation during the past ten years with a stint of uninspired performances.
