Review
Great production-values and colourful images creating a dreamlike
quality to parts of this mystery-thriller are among Triangle’s
best assets. The director is Christopher Smith, a Brit known for horror
films such as Creep (2004) and Severance (2006). This time
his aim is to be more subtle and clever, toying with loops in time and
logic. The wanted effect is arguably to chill and fascinate, but apart
from an eerie atmosphere, which holds up until about half-way into the
picture, the effect Triangle gives is rather annoyance and
frustration. I have rarely seen a film as eager as this one when it
comes to encouraging the viewer to analysis. The problem is that the
abundance of plot holes, logical fallacies and twist will wear you out
before Smith has even started denouing the psychology which he proclaims
lies behind it all. This is no
Memento, and certainly no
The Machinist.
