Speechless
(1994)
Trife and over-plotted alleged romantic comedy that is completely lacking in romance, and only very rarely funny. The reasons are many. One is the unimaginative direction, by Ron Underwood who seems to have a knack of always finding the most banal solution (the initial hook-up of Julia and Kevin being the most obvious example). Another is the one-note acting by Davis and Keaton. They go over the top at any chance they have, and stand off each other without ever creating any chemistry, neither romantically or comic. And Robert King's mediocre script won't do them any favours. A disappointing vehicle from Hollywood's golden year.
