Review

Brilliant and hilarious satire on life in an office cubicle and the dot-com bubble of the late 90s. Mike Judge gets it all right with his writing and direction, constantly hitting bullseye with his characterizations and observations on a business that has not only outgrown its relevance, but that also embodies a hollowness that typifies the contemporary culture in many fields of work. Judge raises questions of an existential nature that makes it impossible not to view the world it depicts in a ridiculuous light. And he does it without being pessimistic or cynical, because, says Judge, it's that very same idiocy and absurdity that will ultimately save us. The point of view is heavily inspired by Scott Adams, but brought to vivid life by Judge's brilliant dialogue and knack for positively peculiar plot twists. The film has some of the same atmosphere that Steve Oedekerk brings to his best work, and it anticipated much of what made Ricky Gervais' The Office a success some years later. A must-see.
