Review

Utterly formulaic, full of exaggerations and implausible events, and with mostly stereotypical characters. Still, Dante's Peak is head and shoulders superior to its thematical and contemporal counterpart, Volcano. Compared to Mick Jackson's film, this is Schindler's List. Donaldson actually shows interest in the technical aspects of the film's theme, and the film never runs out of thematical interest. Brosnan and Hamilton initially look like an odd couple, but the latter's performance justifies their relationship, and the drama improves as the film progresses. Like the better films of the genre, Dante's Peak is suspenseful and sentimental till kingdom come.
