Bröderna Lejonhjärta
(1977)
Swedish filmmaker Olle Hellbom's raid of Swedish children's literature continued with this adaptation of the Astrid Lindgren classic. It certainly doesn't capture the magic of the novel, but it is a beautifully shot film - exploring the wonderful Scandinavian nature - with fine cinematography by Rune Ericson. Lars Söderdahl is a good choice in the lead and mostly makes up for the poor acting by Staffan Götestam. The supporting cast, however, is joyful, with Swedish veterans Edwall and Oscarsson in scene-stealing roles, and Hellbom at times manages to capture the suspense and adventure of the book.
