Birth
(2004)
Perhaps in some other medium, or with another approach or another director, Birth could have been an interesting concept. The problem is that this film is not able whatsoever to make the issue it raises relevant. Your dead husband returns after ten years, but this time in the body of a ten year old kid. Can you empathisize with that? Well, neither can Nicole Kidman, and far less young Cameron Bright. He's totally defenseless against the horrible dialogue he's given. And of course, one cannot expect him to be able to come off as a grown, sexual man with any kind of credibility. It doesn't help much that the movie is thoroughly detached, directed apparently without insight or commitment by Jonathan Glazer. Every character acts and speaks as if they had never been people, and just had been granted a trial, making this film awkward at its best.
